Alan is an editor, writer, and book developer. A former senior editor at Chronicle Books, San Francisco, he acquired and developed dozens of titles in the art, architecture, design, and photography lists.

After fulfilling an M.F.A in Design Criticism at SVA, Alan was managing editor of the New City Reader, whose office operated on the gallery floor of the New Museum in Fall 2010, and was US editor of DomusWeb International in 2011. He has taught at Parsons the New School of Design and leads a graduate thesis seminar at RISD. He now operates a visual book consultancy and packager, ARstudio, where he works with authors, visual artists, photographers, and designers to develop visual book projects and bring them to publication.

Alan teaches in the MFA Communications Design program.
