Inspired by the need for social reform, Chantal is currently pursuing her MFA in communications design at Pratt Institute in NYC. Recurring themes within her latest work include identity, heritage, socio-cultural contradictions, immigration, acculturation and language.
Born in Israel and raised in Bolivia. She earned a BFA in Graphic Design from Florida Atlantic University in 2006. Fluent in English and Spanish, Chantal joined the Nissan USA team at Zimmerman Advertising and became Art Director for both the American and Hispanic Markets until 2010, producing national campaigns broadcasted in TV, print and interactive, providing brand consistency and recognition, satisfying both cultural settings.
Simultaneously, she has done freelance design work for a diverse array of businesses and organizations since 2003, in fields such as environment, architecture, music and fashion.
Language is the essence of a culture. Yet, a large percentage of the Hispanic population in the United States detracts from learning English, troubled by the fear of loosing their heritage, which results in a failure to become integrated into society. The use of language through visual and typographic solutions can promulgate self-recognition and inspire the repressed to embrace it as the tool for self-empowerment and acculturation.
