Ned Drew

Ned Drew is a Professor of Graphic Design at Rutgers University-Newark and a founding partner in the design firm BRED, based in New York City. Drew heads the graphic design program at Rutgers where he teaches at all levels within the design curriculum including the history of design. Drew is also the director of The Design Consortium, a student/teacher run design studio that focuses on non-profit, community-based projects.
His work has been recognized by the AIGA, the Type Directors Club, The Art Directors Club, the University and Colleges Designer Association and the American Association of Museums and his work has appeared in Graphis, Print, How and Creativity magazines. His work has appeared in Graphic Design Referenced, Typographic Design: Form and Communication, Typographic Specimens: The Great Typefaces, Graphic Design Solutions, 2D: Visual Basics for Designers, Working with Computer Type and USDesign 1975-2000 among others.
Drew recently co-authored Purity of Aim: The Book Jacket Designs of Alvin Lustig published by Rochester Institute of Technology’s Cary Graphic Arts Press. In 2005, Drew also co-authored BY ITS COVER: Modern American Book Cover Design published by Princeton Architectural Press. Drew is also the co-editor of Design Education in Progress: Process and Methodology, Volumes 1, 2 and 3, an academic book series dedicated to the study of design pedagogy published by Virginia Commonwealth University’s Center for Design Studies.
Ned teaches in both the MFA and MS Communication Design programs.
