Geographic Information System (GIS) Workshop

GradComD is working with other departments at Pratt that will guide the design and development of geographic information system (GIS) lab. GIS integrates hardware, software, and data for capturing, managing, analyzing, and displaying all forms of geographically referenced information. GIS allows us to view, understand, question, interpret, and VISUALIZE data in many ways that reveal relationships, patterns, and trends in the form of maps, globes, reports, and charts. By partnering in this venture, ComD can play a role in data visualization in new and exciting ways.

To learn more, a workshop will be held on February 16 at 6PM at the West 18th St studios, room 301. The workshop will be conducted by Juan Camilo Osorio and Jessie Braden. You do not need to reserve a space for this.

In addition, we are currently conducting a needs assessment for the GIS lab and would like to invite you to provide your input. We have created a survey to determine how the lab can be most useful. You can access the survey online: http://tinyurl.com/77fpsd5

GAG: How to Control the Money Conversation with Clients

Free for Pratt students and faculty! Please email to sign up for the event.

Talking to clients about money can be one of the hardest topics for creative professionals to tackle. But the process will go smoothly once you learn to take control of the conversation. This session addresses every aspect of the money conversation, from targeting the right clients (the ones with budgets) all the way through closing the sale.

Attendees will learn many invaluable tips on how to chose and approach the right prospects, plus how to talk numbers, both before and during a project, including the language to use –what exactly to say!– to get their budget, even if they don't have one!

Ilise Benun is a national speaker, founder of Marketing Mentor (http://www.marketing-mentor.com/) and, with HOW Magazine, of the Creative Freelancer Conference (http://www.creativefreelancerconference.com/). She coaches creative professionals who are serious about growing their business and she is the author of several books for creatives, including The Designer’s Guide to Marketing and Pricing and the forthcoming book, The Creative Professional’s Guide to Money: How to Think About It, How to Talk About It and How to Manage It (HOW Books 2011).
