Exciting News: Geographic Information System (GIS) lab

By Josh Eriksen on February 13, 2012

GradComD is working with other departments at Pratt that will guide the design and development of geographic information system (GIS) lab. GIS integrates hardware, software, and data for capturing, managing, analyzing, and displaying all forms of geographically referenced information. GIS allows us to view, understand, question, interpret, and VISUALIZE data in many ways that reveal relationships, patterns, and trends in the form of maps, globes, reports, and charts. By partnering in this venture, ComD can play a role in data visualization in new and exciting ways.

To learn more, a workshop will be held on February 16 at 6PM at the West 18th St studios, room 301. The workshop will be conducted by Juan Camilo Osorio and Jessie Braden . Feel free to contact them if you have any questions ahead of the workshop. You do not need to reserve a space for this.

In addition, we are currently conducting a needs assessment for the GIS lab and would like to invite you to provide your input. We have created a survey to determine how the lab can be most useful. You can access the survey online: http://tinyurl.com/77fpsd5

This project is co-sponsored by the Programs for Sustainable Planning and Development (PSPD), the Communications + Package Design Program, and the Pratt Center for Community Development.
