Princeton University Press seeks full-time book designer

The Princeton University Press seeks an entry-level, full-time book designer to create book covers and interiors. This is an ideal position for a recent design school graduate interested in learning more about book design, offset and digital printing, digital production, and the publishing industry. We have a very experienced staff ready to share knowledge with the right candidate.

The designer will work closely with more senior staff to learn the basics of the profession, including how to write composition specifications, how to adapt model and series designs, how to convert jacket designs to paperback format, and how to prepare jacket mechanicals. In addition, they will create original designs for both covers and interiors.

Successful candidate must have a strong typographic sense and good conceptual design skills. They must be interested in book design, publishing in general. and be a quick and eager learner with a positive attitude. They must pay attention to detail, be able to multitask, and be a clear communicator.

Knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite on a Macintosh platform is required. Strong knowledge of InDesign paragraph and character styles and basic CSS/HTML preferred. Undergraduate degree in graphic design or a closely related field is strongly preferred
